Description
The legend of El Dorado tells the story of a mythical city or kingdom filled with gold and unimaginable riches in South America, pursued by Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century. Originating from Muisca rituals, the myth describes a chieftain who covered himself in gold dust and offered treasures into Lake Guatavita in Colombia.
This design incorporates various gold pieces from the Muisca culture, many of which are now displayed in the Gold Museum. Some are illustrated in line, while others appear in gold tones. The black and white pattern along one side references the mountains represented in traditional textiles from these communities. The texts included in the piece are drawn from the original legend, as well as phrases attributed to people from that era.
